Building Permit Applications
Complete building permit application: Use this application for projects such as new single-family residences, new commercial buildings, additions and detached structures. These applications also provide questionnaires for Encroachment permits, Grading Permits, Well permits, and Septic permits. It is highly recommended that applicants contact building division staff to discuss submittal requirements.
Minor building permit application: Use this application for projects such as decks, solar pv systems, minor interior alterations, additions and detached structures under 500 sq.ft. It is highly recommended that applicants contact building division staff to discuss submittal requirements.
Over the counter building permit application: Use this application for a projects such as a re-roof, a demolition, an electrical panel change-out, a woodstove, and a water heater. It is highly recommended that applicants contact building division staff to discuss submittal requirements.
*New construction projects in Swall Meadows are required to submit a Wheeler Crest Design Review application.
**On January 31, 2023, the Board of Forestry and Fire Protection (BOF) approved comprehensive updates to the State's Minimum Fire Safe Regulations (MFSR). These newly approved regulations supersede Mono County’s regulations and noteworthy changes include 30' setback requirements for all parcels regardless of land use designation and parcel size (unless certain criteria can be met for deviation in Article 5 of those regulations). Emergency water standards required by the Mono County General Plan for Long Valley and Wheeler Crest Fire Protection Districts still remain in effect. Please use the online California Code of Regulations to refer to the most current version of the MFSR.
