Mono County Transient Occupancy Tax Rate Increase Effective December 13, 2024
MONO COUNTY, Calif. (November 14, 2024) – Following voter approval of Measure K in last week’s election, the Transit Occupancy Rate (TOT) for unincorporated Mono County will increase from 12% to 15%, effective December 13, 2024.
Measure K passed with over 60% voter approval to fund essential Mono County services, including affordable and workforce housing; public safety and emergency services; childcare; street maintenance and pothole repair; county parks; public health and healthcare; economic development; and other general government use. Hotel and short-term rental guests in unincorporated Mono County will be subject to the 15% tax. This tax will provide approximately an additional $1.1 million annually to support these vital local infrastructure and community services.
Key points for transient operators:
- The new 15% TOT rate applies to all transient stays, including existing reservations with check-in dates on or after December 13, 2024.
- By December 13, 2024, reservation and payment systems should reflect the new TOT rate.
- Expect further communication in the coming weeks detailing how to complete TOT tax returns for the quarter ending December 31, 2024.
