Bridgeport

Mono County Courthouse

The community of Bridgeport serves as the Mono County seat. Once known as "Big Meadows" for its fertile and open grazing land, Bridgeport California today is the hub of a year round vacation paradise. The community is rich in history, recreation, and scenic beauty. Surrounded by vast National Forest lands and the Sawtooth Range, this section of Mono County is an unspoiled recreational playground with pristine lakes, rivers, streams and hot springs. Naturally, there's great fishing, hunting, hiking, cross country skiing, snowmobile trails and horseback adventures.

As the gateway to the famous Bodie State Historic Park, the largest un-restored ghost town in the West, this natural playground attracts significant tourism.  Hotels, motels, cozy cabins and B&B’s, along with restaurants, a bakery, and fishing tackle shop are part of Main Street’s charm.  The traditional court house, built in 18xx, is the second-oldest court house still in full operation in the state.

The Bridgeport Elementary School, a bank, post office and gas stations, and a playground are also located in town.  Bryant Field Airport is located a short distance away with views of beautiful Bridgeport Reservoir.  Numerous Campgrounds and RV Parks are available nearby; the Bridgeport Ranger Station provides information and maps on all outdoor activities.
